The Controller will oversee all financial aspects of the company, managing financial reporting, accounting systems, budgeting, and compliance. This role will ensure the accuracy and integrity of the company's financial data, provide strategic financial insights, and support the senior management team in decision-making processes.
Key Responsibilities:
• Financial Reporting & Oversight:
o Prepare and review financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements for the holding company and its subsidiaries.
o Ensure compliance with accounting principles (GAAP) and industry standards.
o Manage monthly, quarterly, and annual closing processes, ensuring timely and accurate reporting.
• Accounting Management:
o Supervise the accounting department and ensure the team adheres to company policies and accounting principles.
o Manage the accounting records, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger.
o Ensure accurate recording and reporting of financial transactions, including capital expenditures and depreciation.
• Cash Management & Treasury:
o Assist CFO with cash flow management.
• Internal Controls & Compliance:
o Implement and monitor internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure compliance with all financial regulations and laws.
o Manage the annual audit process, working closely with external auditors to ensure accurate financial statements.
o Ensure compliance with tax filing, sales tax, and other regulatory requirements.
• Management & Leadership:
o Develop, lead, train, and mentor the accounting team.
o Foster a collaborative and results-oriented culture within the finance team.
Qualifications:
• Education:
o Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA or CMA preferred.
• Experience:
o Minimum of 5-7 years of progressive experience in accounting or finance.
o Experience with restaurant financial operations preferred but not required.
• Skills & Abilities:
o Willingness to operate in a financially distressed environment.
o Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting.
o Proficient in financial software (Net Suite, Quick Books, or similar systems); experience with restaurant POS and accounting systems a plus.
o Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
o Analytical mindset with the ability to provide actionable financial insights to drive business results.
o Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications (but not required):
• Experience in multi-location restaurant groups or restaurant holding companies.
• Strong understanding of restaurant-specific financial metrics (food cost, labor cost, etc.).
