Food Safety Specialist


The Restaurant Food Safety Specialist is part of the broader Food Safety & Quality (FSQ) team which is focused on food safety risk prevention from field to fork. This role is the primary contact for the FSQ team with our restaurant teams, restaurant auditors and other key restaurant preventive control program providers. This individual will have strong technical acumen to field day-to-day food safety concerns and questions from the field. The candidate will need to develop strong relationships with cross functional partners, other Yum! Brands FSQ teams, support partners and restaurant field operators including Franchise and Licensee partners. The person must have a passion for food safety and the drive to foster continuous improvement with a risk-based approach built on a foundation of trust and partnership.This individual will manage the third party food safety audit program and play a critical role in field food safety support. This person will be instrumental in the implementation of the Restaurant Food Safety Strategy and will lead critical components of this strategy, including the Franchise Food Safety Council and the Cleaning Chemicals Program.

A successful candidate will have strong personal drive, solid problem-solving skills and excellent time management skills with a strong technical foundation in restaurant food safety to support a wide variety of project needs. Projects and timelines in this environment can be fast moving so the ability to be flexible in their approach is key to the success of this candidate. A forward thinker who is a problem solver with experience in field food safety and restaurant operations is crucial. Most importantly, this person must have a desire to work hard with a strong and collaborative team in a progressive culture. They must be able to complete multiple concurrent tasks and projects in a timely manner and prioritize work in a fast-paced environment.

A talented individual with background in restaurant food safety that will implement restaurant food safety strategy and vision, which include but not limited to:
- Manage third party food safety audit program for FSQ team by partnering with Compliance Team and selected audit team to ensure standards are clear and applied correctly. Field inquires with the field and provide innovative solutions to common problems. Hold responsibility for measuring and reporting on restaurant food safety metrics.
- Lead Restaurant Food Safety Recognition program to drive continuous improvement and improved field engagement.
- Manage day-to-day food safety incidents and requests. Coordinate response for restaurant emergencies.
- Lead and manage Cleaning Chemicals Program for the brand to maintain an efficient program coupled with creative cleaning communications to inspire restaurant teams in taking pride in their workplace.
- Support the Franchise Food Safety Council and co-lead this initiative with Restaurant Food Safety Manager.

Serve as backup recall coordinator and support the system during recalls and product withdrawals.

- Bachelor of Science in Food Science (desirable), Biology, Food Engineering, Chemistry, Microbiology or related field.

Knowledge Base
- 2+ years of experience with food industry and/or analytical laboratory environment
- Food Safety and Quality system auditing experience and HACCP experience
- Knowledge of government regulations and role of FDA, USDA, Food Code & Crisis Management
- Demonstrates a general understanding of economic metrics for facility and business operations Core Skills
